Scattered showers will continue this evening, turning heavy at times. Winds will be light to moderate and variable.
Scattered showers will turn to longer spells of rain tonight, with most clear spells occurring in the southwest. There'll be some mist and fog patches too. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, coldest in the north, with moderate to fresh westerly winds in Munster and light, variable winds elsewhere.
A generally wet and breezy day tomorrow, with rain across the northern half of the country and scattered showers and occasional sunshine further south. The rain and showers will be heavy at times and may cause spot flooding. It will be breezy with moderate to fresh winds, variable at first before becoming mainly northerly. Colder conditions will spread from the north through the day, with early afternoon temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees over the northern half of the country and 6 to 9 degrees further south.
Colder for the next couple of days with an Arctic airmass feeding down. Less cold later this weekend but becoming unsettled again.
Thursday night: Cloudy, wet and breezy at first with widespread rain and moderate to fresh northeasterly winds. A clearance will develop across the north and west overnight with clear spells, isolated showers and lighter winds. Cold with frost and ice, particularly under the clear spells in the north and west. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees.
Friday: Cold with frost and ice in some areas on Friday morning. Cloud and patchy rain will clear from the south and east through the morning and otherwise it'll be largely dry with sunny spells and just isolated showers in the west and north. Some of these showers could be wintry. Highest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees with mainly light to moderate northerly winds, fresh for a time in the south and east before the rain clears.
Friday night: A very cold, frosty and icy night. Dry with long clear spells, in just light northwest breezes. Lowest temperatures of -4 to -1 degrees.
Saturday: Starting off dry with widespread sunshine, but very cold with widespread frost and ice. Cloud will gradually build across the western half of the country during the afternoon with wet and rather windy conditions developing, extending eastwards later in the evening. Highest temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees. Light southerly winds will increase fresh to strong with the rain which may fall as sleet for a time through the evening and early night.
Saturday night: Wet and rather windy with the chance of wintry falls.
Sunday: Staying rather windy with scattered falls of rain, mainly affecting Munster and Leinster early on. While some sunny spells will develop, scattered showers will occur too, mostly affecting Atlantic counties. Less cold with highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in brisk westerly winds.
Further outlook: Continuing unsettled into early next week with an Atlantic regime dominating.
